About This Course

Build a foundation in Python, then reinforce it with AI. In this online version of our camp, you’ll code a custom AI tool, like a chatbot, with your own Python scripts. Begin with essential syntax like functions and lists to write your own scripts from the ground up. Code text-based interactive programs like a password-protected story. Then, integrate a multimodal AI model from OpenAI. You’ll connect the model to your Python scripts to create dynamic chatbots and interactive games within the console. Explore responsible design and create assistants, all through your own code! Program your AI models to solve real-world tasks, and evaluate their responses for accuracy and bias along the way. Gain hands-on experience in Python with iD Tech!

AI Usage
You’ll code your own AI tools, such as a custom chatbot, using a multimodal AI model with instructor guidance.

You'll learn to:

  • Build console-based programs with Python code
  • Integrate OpenAI tools like ChatGPT to create dynamic AI applications
  • Design a custom AI tool, such as a recommendation system chatbot
  • Explore AI concepts and build tools to solve real-world problems
  • Develop essential Python coding skills

Course Format

This course is part of a weeklong virtual summer camp running Monday through Friday. Your child will learn online with a small group of other students, in sessions led by expert instructors. Each day includes two hours of live instruction and peer collaboration plus two hours of self-paced project development. Learn more below. 

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in this course could look like. Keep in mind students will progress at varying paces, and this is meant to serve as an outline of key materials and the overall experience. 

Students will learn Python fundamentals through an introduction to variables, conditional statements, loops, and more! They’ll also explore advanced AI technologies like ChatGPT and create logic-based applications, such as an AI Mad Lib storyteller.

Building on their knowledge, students will delve deeper into Python programming and learn how to use AI to generate text and transcribe audio files. They’ll also build a customized AI-based chatbot system, like a study bot or a riddle generator.

Utilizing their coding and computational thinking skills, students will explore advanced prompt engineering to generate structured AI responses and create bots by vibe coding to a theme, such as an AI text adventure game or an AI RPG arena battle.

Next, students will learn how to create personalized AI Agents to perform daily tasks, such as a schedule manager, a seasonal stylist, a restaurant advisor, or a content planner, by applying their vibe coding skills.

To wrap up the week, students will finish strong with a solid understanding of Python programming and AI technologies!

To complete the experience, our Virtual Tech Camps incorporate all the magic of summer camp including games, challenges, and legendary iD traditions!

This course is designed for beginner to intermediate students. Our small class size ensures that each student receives individual attention and has the freedom to learn at their own pace.

To run this online course with iD Tech, students will need a Mac or Windows computer (no Chromebooks, unless otherwise specified), a webcam, and a stable internet connection with access to Zoom video conferencing. Additional info on course-specific installation requirements will be communicated after registration.

As courses frequently sell out, we recommend registering early to secure your child's spot. You can make unlimited changes with no fees up to 28 days before the start of your session. If you need to cancel before March 1st, you will receive a full refund of the amount paid. If you cancel after March 1st but still 28+ days before your session, you will receive a refund less the additional fees (if applicable) and a $250 cancellation charge per week. Within 28 days of your session start date, changes are subject to a fee, and no refunds are provided for cancellations.
